Live-in Volunteer Length of Commitment: Minimum of 1 year

Spend a year gaining experience and skills in biodynamic farming, gardening, homemaking, baking, food processing and preserving, weaving, woodworking, conflict resolution, and community building.

At Camphill Village Minnesota, we focus on capabilities, not disabilities. Everyone works together in the houses, shared community spaces and on the land to sustain our village and lifestyle. Each of us has something to offer. What will you bring to the table?

Requirements

  • Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older
  • Be excited to live and work with people with developmental disabilities
  • Have flexibility, a sense of humor, and a calm response to the unexpected are favored;
  • CPR certification required (training provided)
  • Star Services training required (training provided)
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Expectations

In the Home:

Volunteers assist in the home by helping with daily activities that can include physical and emotional care for members who have developmental disabilities, cleaning common spaces, doing laundry, making meals, providing coverage of the house when needed, and being part of house meetings.

Work Activities:

Community members work side by side for 2.5 hours in the morning shift and 2.5 hours in the afternoon during the regular work week. Examples of work activities include cooking, baking, gardening, farming, and weaving. Volunteers have one day during the week (Monday-Friday) that is their 'day off'.

Community:

Volunteers support the various festivals, gatherings, and community events by active planning and participation or by allowing others to attend. Offer your own culture, ideas and suggestions to bring forth your own special gifts and talents!

What we Provide

  • Monthly stipend (Reimbursements for personal expenses)
  • Student Loan payments ($250-$500/mo)
  • 3 weeks of paid vacation
  • Free room and board (private room in a community house)
  • Daily organic, farm-fresh meals
  • Toiletries and daily living items
  • Use of community vehicles (including gas/insurance)
  • Medical insurance/support if staying longer than 6 months
  • One full day off during the workweek

Additional Information

Training will be provided by Star Services with online courses and person-centered training will be given by experienced long-term volunteers. There is also an orientation course and training which is conducted throughout the year. These trainings meet the state-mandated requirements for adult foster care.
