Help create a comforting and welcoming environment for children visiting CARE House. Volunteers in our Child Assist role help children who are being forensically interviewed regarding allegations of abuse. Child Assist's greet the child(ren) at our front door and help them settle in to their private waiting rooms by providing snacks and activities. Forensic interviews are scheduled Monday - Friday during office hours, and volunteers are able to set their own schedules. If you have a passion for helping kids, this is the perfect position for you!

Mission Statement
CARE House of Oakland County is a leading resource in the prevention of child abuse and neglect and the protection of children through advocacy, education, intervention, reseach and treament, in collaboration with the community.
Description
CARE House, aka Child Abuse and Neglect Council, was established 30 years ago by a collation of communities groups, including the prosecutor, police agencies, the Junior League of Birmngham to develop program to abate the growing issues of child abuse amd neglect. About 15 years ago the agency became an "child advocacy" center, where children alleged victimes of sexual or severe physical abuse or sexual assault are interviewed by a forensic interviewer while police, prosecutor, and protective services observe. The multi-discipline approach reduces the traumatization of children who have experienced these events.
CARE House presents various educational programs to the community in an effort to educate the community on its responsibility to protect children. Recently the agency added Stewards of Children program to its educational aspect.
Another program is our participation in the Healthy Start collaborative to provide support for new mothers for up to five years. We also hold parent education classes using the Nuuring Parent model.
In additional we are an affiliated program with National CASA to provide court advocacy for children under jurisdiction of the 6th Circuit Court Family Division for negelct and abuse .
