Direct Supervisor: Outreach and Volunteer Specialist
Purpose
Greet and inform the public about preserve programs and operations, assist visitors with wayfinding, and communicate the mission and objectives of The Nature Conservancy for a variety of ages and backgrounds.
Position Summary
Staff the beach kiosk located at the entrance to the beach trail and serve as the welcoming host for visitors while providing quality customer service and environmental interpretation in a courteous and professional manner. Volunteers are responsible for providing a warm welcome, answering questions, helping resolve issues or complaints, supervising the admission fee collection, and assisting with preserve operations as needed.
Volunteers will receive training, reference materials, and ongoing enrichment opportunities.
Experience in customer service, knowledge of the surrounding area, and education or experience in the local natural ecosystems or general conservation is preferred, but not required. Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience is appreciated.
Requirements
- Minimum age is 16 years old.
- Minimum time commitment is three 3-hour shifts per month for three months.
- Must successfully pass The Nature Conservancy’s background screening and youth safety training.
- At least one volunteer t-shirt must be purchased (suggested donation of $10).
Recommendations
- Be prepared to work outdoors in hot and buggy conditions, however the kiosk is an enclosed building equipped with air conditioning and windows to offer a breeze.
- Stinging or biting insects may be present. Insect repellent and a refillable water bottle are recommended.

Description
Blowing Rocks Preserve is one of four campus preserves under TNC Florida’s Center for Conservation Initiatives, advancing conservation through education and training, outreach and volunteerism, science and research, and land stewardship. Blowing Rocks is a 73 acre barrier island sanctuary named for its rocky Anastasia limestone shoreline-the largest on the Atlantic coast.
