Volunteers Needed Urgently to help patients nearing end of life to fulfill their last requests!

We see the last season of life as richly beautiful. Let's walk alongside patients during their toughest times

Let's bring healing to the spirits of hospice patients and their families. Hospice Doesn’t Mean Giving Up Hope

We provide care wherever the patient calls home: house, a skilled nursing center, an assisted living facility or independent living facility. Our caregivers help create individualized care plans, set personal goals, and manage patient pain and symptoms. Every patient is different. With different challenges, different needs, different family and friends. So the care we give each patient is different.

Please call or text today to schedule an orientation to find out if this opportunity is right for you!

30-minutes to 1 hour a week of time is all you need!! (316) 895-1875.

(Heartland Hospice is now Promedica Hospice)

Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers offer support, companionship and practical, compassionate help. Some interact directly with patients and families. Others prefer to work behind the scenes in the office setting. As a volunteer, you help determine which tasks you’re best suited to perform.

THE TASKS OF VOLUNTEERS MAY INCLUDE:
  • Helping with office support tasks at the agency
  • Running errands for patients and families
  • Staying with patients so family members can get a much-needed rest
  • Reading, or providing a comforting touch
  • Playing or singing soothing music to patients
  • Keeping vigil with patients in their final hours
  • Providing a friendly visit to lift a patient's spirits
  • Providing special veteran volunteer support to patients who are veterans

Legacy Projects Opportunities -
What are legacy projects? Talking, listening, answering questions, and sharing stories are legacy projects to honor the life of hospice patients. They are ways to interact with the things they loved physically, and to share them with the world.

A life interview is a powerful way to connect individuals and generations. It's a chance to travel through time. In the present moment, the best gift you can give someone is to listen to them. You'll find out about the past as you hear about real-life experiences. And along the way, you may discover some timeless insights to help guide you through your own future.

Legacy projects examples:

  • Writing a letter
  • Audio recording or video
  • Book of recipes
  • Life Scrapbook
  • Book of art work
  • Prewritten cards for loved ones future events
  • Photo book
  • Memory box
  • Write a book

Giving Your Time - 30 minutes a week

ProMedica volunteers offer support, companionship and practical, compassionate help. Some interact directly with patients and families. Others prefer to work behind the scenes in the office setting. As a volunteer, you help determine which tasks you’re best suited to perform.

Becoming a ProMedica Hospice Volunteer

We consider the chance to be involved in the lives of our patients and families both a sacred opportunity and a privilege. The love, respect and care our hospice volunteers provide are vitally important to our patients' overall well-being during challenging times.

About Gentiva-Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice

Location:

2872 North Ridge Road, Suite 122, Wichita, KS 67205, US

Mission Statement

The mission of Gentiva-Heartland Hospice is to provide quality care to patients with a limited life expectancy, as well as support to their caregivers. The quality of life for those we serve is enhanced through palliative and specialized supportive care designed to meet the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patients and caregivers. Hospice care is provided by an interdisciplinary team utilizing an approach to the care delivered to patients either in their own home or extended care facility; working cooperatively with area health care providers and other community resources. Heartland Hospice strives to provide care to all who are eligible and need hospice care irrespective of ability to pay. Hospice care is a promise....a promise to patients who are facing the most difficult time of life, when choices seem few, and the patient and family situation is most fragile.

Description

As a Hospice volunteer, you will be orientated to the Hospice Program so you can understand our philosophy and goals. This will enable you to have the skills needed to assist patients and their families. You will not be asked to become a family counselor, just a non-judgmental listener and friend.

As a volunteer you will love the sense of self-satisfaction you will receive from bringing special pleasure to someone's life. You will enjoy learning from the vast experience and colorful life of our patients and their families.

Also, if you are a member of a special interest group (a choir, drama club, garden club, etc.) you may want to volunteer your group for a special project or activity. Become an integral part of the Heartland team by becoming a Heartland Hospice Volunteer.
