One of the ways that Catholic Charities helps newly arriving refugee families is to secure safe, clean, affordable housing for them. We need help setting up the apartment or house. This can include cleaning, moving furniture, making beds, arranging the kitchen, and decorating.
The finishing touches volunteers add help make the house into a Home.

This position will be "on-call". We will usually have about 2 weeks' notice of shift timings. It is dependent on the family's scheduled arrival to Erie. Set up times will generally be during business hours M-F or on Saturday morning, exceptions can be made.

Description

The United Nations High Commission on Refugees defines a refugee as individuals who have fled their countries of origin and meet the United Nations' criteria of having a "well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion.

Through the USCCB and the US State Department, our agency receives approximately 300 new arrivals every year for resettlement in Erie. We work hard to help our clients and their family achieve self-sufficiency through education, medical care, housing, employment services, and referrals to other social services agencies.

REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a Done in a Day opportunity and there is no prior training or ongoing commitment needed.
  • Must be at least 16
  • Minimum of 2-hour shifts. Longer shifts would be appreciated, but we are flexible.
