Are you looking for ways to use your talents and passion to help patients and families in our community?
Whether you work directly with patients and their families or provide support behind the scenes, volunteering at Lightways is very rewarding. As a Lightways volunteer, you’ll become part of a highly dedicated and caring group of extraordinary people.
Lightways volunteers range from students to retirees, homemakers to professionals, and individuals to service groups. Although all have different reasons for volunteering, all Lightways volunteers are committed to providing unwavering support with the powerful positivity of light.
Direct care volunteers provide services directly to patients and families. Volunteers will visit in a patient’s private residence, a nursing home, or the Hospice Inpatient Unit. These services include:
- Companionship
- Vigil
- Grief Support
Indirect care volunteers support Lightways in many ways. Our Indirect Care volunteers have unique skills that help Lightways with special projects and community events. These services include:
- Gardening
- Administrative Services
- Memorial Bear Seamstress
- Bakery Angels

The mission of Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care is to provide comprehensive, holistic, community-based support service and care for terminally ill persons, their caregivers, and loved ones without regard to economic status; to enable the dying person to live peacefully, in comfort and with dignity to the last moment of life.
Description
For over 40 years, Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care have provided individualized, expert, hospice care for adults and children diagnosed with a limited life expectancy, palliative care for adults and children with a life-limiting illness without a terminal prognosis, and bereavement services to patients families and the greater community.
