About Anne Arundel Weed Resistance

Location:

2664 Riva Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401, US

Mission Statement

Empower and enable citizens to manage the threat of non-native invasive plant in Anne Arundel County. We work to educate community members on non-native invasive plant identification, ecology, control methods and how to work safely in the outdoors.

Description

Weed Warriors are volunteer environmental stewards dedicated to reclaiming the health of the forests and natural areas of the Anne Arundel County wherever they are needed. Their function is to serve as ambassadors and leaders in the struggle against non-native invasive plant species by providing the knowledge and labor needed to manage the spread of the non-native invasive plants in Anne Arundel County’s forest and natural areas on public and private land. Resistance members will learn about identification, ecology and management of non-native invasive plant species. They will receive training in mechanical removal methods, how to work safely in outdoor environment and tool use and safety. Volunteers can expect to work with other passionate individuals to build their skills and actively combat non-native invasive plants. We host a variety of events including but not limited to classroom training on plant identification, field training on plant identification and removal strategies, invasive removals, revegetation and outreach to general public.
