Job Title: Senior Center Check-In Helper

Reports To: Deborah Reynolds

Schedule:Monday thru Friday 9am-12:45PM (Need 2 volunteers per day)

Position Overview: The Senior Center Check-In Helper is responsible for welcoming and assisting seniors as they arrive at the center. This role is essential for creating a friendly atmosphere and ensuring smooth operations during check-in. There's opportunity to help decorate center w/monthly theme, serve meals, or other tasks as needed. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and a passion for supporting the senior community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcoming Participants:
    • Greet seniors warmly as they arrive, ensuring they feel valued and comfortable.
    • Assist seniors with any questions or concerns about activities and services offered at the center.
  • Check-In Process:
    • Manage the check-in process efficiently, ensuring all participants are accounted for.
    • Maintain accurate attendance records and assist with any necessary paperwork.
  • Assistance and Support:
    • Aid seniors as needed, including helping with mobility aids or directing them to various activities.
    • Monitor the waiting area to ensure a safe and comfortable environment.
  • Communication:
    • Share information about upcoming events, classes, and resources available at the center.
    • Collaborate with staff to relay important updates or changes to the schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Patience and empathy for working with seniors.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese or Mandarin a plus.

Working Conditions

May be required to stand or sit for extended periods of time.

Please be aware this role requires indoor activity and is working with seniors (55+ years old)

Appropriate Attire: Please wear closed-toe shoes (not sandals, heels, flipflops). Shirts should be short or long-sleeved (no spaghetti straps, strapless, sleeveless, mid-riff showing or tank top types). Shorts/dresses/skirts should be longer in length, appropriate for comfortably bending and reaching items.

Required:

· Age Requirements: 16 or older. You must be confirmed to participate. No walk-ins.

· Register as volunteer for Sr. Nutrition Center Check-in Helper

· Complete onboarding paperwork

· Attend Volunteer Orientation

· Volunteers going over 20 hours must complete a Background Check
