Bethesda Project is a local organization addressing homelessness in Philadelphia. We have 15 different locations ranging from emergency shelter to permanent supportive housing, serving over 1,000 men and women every year.
We recently started resuming on-site volunteering for individuals and groups. We currently allow for volunteers to perform behind-the-scenes tasks (such as cleaning) or interact directly with guests and residents. This could include bringing and serving snacks/food, playing games, or leading an activities utilizing your skillset such as art, music, yoga, or career readiness. We continue to offer virtual/remote opportunities such as mailling or dropping off food or decorations. Our sites are mostly all located near Center City and range from 4-100 individuals so can work with your capacity.
Volunteers truly make a difference, whether helping behind-the-scenes or with guests and residents. Plus, a great way to utilize a skill!

Mission Statement
The mission of Bethesda Project is to find and care for the abandoned poor and to be family with those who have none. This involves operating a continuum of care throughout Center City Philadelphia utilizing a Housing First approach that minimizes barriers to access and allows each individual to take their own journey of healing at one's own pace.
Description
Bethesda Project began in 1979 when Reverend Domenic Rossi and members of his prayer group from Daylesford Abbey in Paoli, Pennsylvania, reached out to a group of women experiencing homelessness in Center City, Philadelphia. Committed to caring for the women as they would members of their own families, the group rented an apartment at 12th and Sansom Streets. The women had a new home there, and the prayer group provided companionship to help them cope with mental illness. Now, more than 40 years since our beginning, Bethesda Project remains committed to our initial calling -- to find and care for the abandoned poor and to be family with those who have none. Bethesda Project serves more than 1,400 homeless and formerly homeless men and women each year at 14 sites throughout Philadelphia. This includes emergency shelter, permanent housing, and supportive services. Learn more at www.bethesdaproject.org/approach.
