Ocean Education Program Coordinator

The International Ocean Film Festival (IOFF) is looking for a detail-oriented and friendly volunteer to fulfill a short-term coordinator role for our 22nd annual film festival held at Fort Mason Center for Arts and. Culture in San Francisco in April. Every year during the festival, IOFF hosts hundreds of local middle and high school students for the in-person education program. This volunteer role will coordinate with teachers on a small team before during and after the festival to ensure a smooth and engaging program.

The role is expected to commit 5-10 hours of remote coordination per week leading up to the festival, be on-site on Friday, April 11th to welcome students, and 5-10 hours for two weeks after the event.

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruit returning teachers and new contacts through emails and newsletters
  • Organize bus schedules with vendors and participating schools for the day-of film program
  • Assist Board Education Chair in coordinating guest speakers and filmmakers for teh day-of film porgram
  • Be the day-of point person for other IOFF volunteers, teachers and buses to ensure a smooth program
  • Facilitate post-festival surveys for teachers

We're looking for a friendly and detail-oriented volunteer who has experience with middle and high-school-aged students to take on this role and bring an engaging and impactful experience to students visiting the festival. This position will start as soon as possible and will end on April 18, 2025.

About the International Ocean Film Festival

Launched in 2004, IOFF is the leading Bay Area ocean destination event of the year. Taking place at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, the IOFF is a four-day celebration of the ocean, featuring more than 50 independent films from around the world, visiting filmmakers, special guests, panel discussions and opportunities to engage with Ocean Hero Community Partners throughout the weekend. The film festival strives to engage the next generation of ocean conservationists by offering a Free Student Education Program and an International Student Film Competition for middle school and high schools students. The festival takes place in-person on April 11-13, 2025 in San Francisco at Cowell Theater, Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture.

The International Ocean Film Festival (IOFF), is the first and largest film festival focused on the ocean in the world.

As a year-round ocean conservation organization the IOFF produces a multipole day in person film and lecture event that promotes awareness around the health of our oceans, and call to actions to protect it.
