The High Plains Fair Housing Center is seeking individuals to assist in the investigation of housing discrimination . Under federal and ND state laws, it is illegal to discriminate against people in housing transactions. Testing refers to the use of individuals who pose as prospective renters or purchasers of real estate for the purpose of gathering information which may indicate whether a housing provider is complying with fair housing laws.
For example, two testers receive instructions to separately visit the same apartment building and inquire about the same type of apartment. Comparing these test experiences may make it possible to identify and document any differences in treatment and/or the existence of policies or practices that violate fair housing laws.
Our testers must complete a 2-hour training session done through Zoom or in person. We pay $25 for each phone call and $70 for each in-person test.
What it takes to be a good tester:
- Detail oriented
- Memory Skills
- Legible Handwriting
- Reading and Literacy
- Give articulate account of test experiences
- Neutrality
- Passion for Civil rights work
