ORGANIZATION: Yolo County Library - Winters Community Library

Create an impact in YOUR community by joining our team of volunteers as an ESL tutor! Help non-native speakers gain the necessary English language skills to advocate for themselves and their loved ones in their day to day lives.

Volunteers will:

  • Meet weekly (Virtually or In Person) with an Adult Learner or a small group of Adult Learners to help them learn English.
  • Work with Adult Learner(s) to identify their goals as English Learner(s).
  • Work with Yolo Reads and Library Staff to find materials to assist in the tutoring process.
  • Assist in tracking student needs and progress by completing monthly reports
  • Attend volunteer trainings and meetings
Volunteers need:
  • No experience required. We welcome both experienced and novice tutors.
  • Age minimum of 18
  • Good organization skills
  • Use creative and interactive instruction methods
  • Good use of technology and video conference apps
  • Motivated to help learners achieve their goals
  • MUST BE A RESIDENT OF YOLO COUNTY OR IMMEDIATE SURROUNDING COUNTIES (SACRAMENTO, SOLANO, etc.)
Bonus Points:
  • Fluency or bilingualism in another language (especially Arabic, Russian and Spanish)
