Want to live in Seattle, Washington while gaining valuable work experience and giving back to the local community? Notre Dame Mission Volunteers AmeriCorps is currently recruiting Service Members for the 2023 service term! Members serve youth and adults in various non-profit agencies.
About the Notre Dame Mission Volunteers - AmeriCorps Program:
Members serve for 7 months beginning the first week of January through the last week of July at one of our partnering organizations. Service members receive up to a $8,500 living allowance for the year distributed bi-weekly plus an educational award of $3,247.50 upon completion of their year of service, student loan forbearance, and Health Insurance Available through CIGNA. Service Members also receive on the job training, opportunities for career development, travel to Maryland for the mid-year conference, and additional trainings and support provided throughout the year.
Organization Background:
St. Therese Catholic Academy (STCA) is a diverse, welcoming community serving Preschool (age 3) through 8th Grade students located in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle. In our 95th school year, we are known for our cultural diversity, excellent academic programs, openness to families from all walks of life, and our faith-filled and family-like school culture.
Position Overview:
Members serving at STCA provide a blend of in school and after school support. NDMVA members provide classroom support for electives, social studies, and science learning and recess and lunch support. Members administer individual tutoring in reading and math for students in various grades. Aftercare responsibilities include setting schedules, planning activities, checking students in and out, parent partnership and student safety.
Skills and Qualifications
- GED or High School Diploma
- Ability to commute or relocate to Seattle, WA
- Commitment to creating and maintaining a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment
- Demonstrated ability to create developmental relationships and connect with youth and staff
- Ability to effectively manage groups of youth
- Strong verbal communication skills with youth
- Ability to identify and communicate personal needs for a successful working environment
