Heights and Hills is preparing for another Thanksgiving! The past four years we have been able to reach more of our catchment area through meal deliveries and will be continuing those deliveries this year. We understand the in-person Thanksgiving dinner for Brooklyn’s older adults is a special and longstanding tradition for the community, but we hope you will be able to join us in extending this tradition to more of our wonderful community members. Our organization will continue to collaborate with the Service Collective, BloomAgain, the Packer Collegiate Institute, and other community partners to fulfill this wonderful day of service and thanks.

We continue to honor the spirit of this event by focusing our resources on delivering Thanksgiving meals to Heights and Hills’ most vulnerable homebound clients. These older adults are experiencing the chronic challenges of being homebound and isolated day in and day out, and we want to be sure they are not forgotten on a holiday that can be especially difficult for those living alone.

We will continue our tradition of accepting pie donations to be included in this year’s meal deliveries. Please see below for link to sign up to bake or buy a pie to drop by our downtown Brooklyn office on Wednesday 11/27 from noon to 4 pm.

If you are not able to volunteer for Thanksgiving this year, please consider a contribution to support our impactful work. Thank you!

Thank you for your interest! Help deliver 300 holiday meals to homebound older adults in Brooklyn by car!, public transportation, or on foot on Thanksgiving Day, November 28. Delivery time commitment is about 1-2.5 hours and we would love folks with cars to sign up!

Volunteers will pick up meals in Park Slope from the Park Slope Center of Successful Aging to make deliveries to homebound clients of Heights and Hills by car/bike, public transportation, or foot in the surrounding neighborhoods. Volunteers on foot must be willing to carry 2 to 4 meals, 2-4 locations, (bags provided) and walk to destinations up to 15-25 minutes away from the meeting place. Volunteers using cars/bikes must be willing to deliver to up to 5 locations throughout Brooklyn. May need to enter apartment buildings and climb stairs. Families welcome!

Mission Statement

Our mission statement is guided by the following beliefs: older adults are assets to their communities. Older adults' skills, experience, and wisdom enhance our civic organizations and institutions as well as individual lives. Further, older adults are entitled to live as independently as possible, with dignity and personal choice. In support of our mission, Heights and Hills operates three programs for older adults and their families: Case management for older adults, Caregiver support to family members, friends or neighbors who aid loved ones, and the Volunteer team who recruits appropriate volunteers to perform one or two of these services: the friendly visiting program, a volunteer becomes a companion to a senior and visits every week for an hour's time. Special Project volunteers aid in a variety of areas, this can be a grocery trip on behalf of a client, delivering birthday flowers or a much-needed wheelchair, this is a flexible opportunity.
