Special Olympics Orange County will sponsor 2-3 trips during the winter to Appalachian Ski Mountain to provide youth and adults with intellectual disabilities in ski and snowboarding instruction. Volunteers must have solid ski experience and will be trained to assist the athletes with appropriate instruction. Athletes may range from first time on the slopes to advanced/independent skiers. All lift tickets, rentals and transportation assistance can be provided. Most trainings are on Sunday/Mondays.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.
Description
SOOC offers 18 sports year-round to more than 300 athletes of all ages and skill levels with developmental disabilities.
