Biographical Researcher Job Description

The mission of The Price of Freedom Foundation is to tell the complete life stories of those who
pay the ultimate price for our freedom. These are stories worthy of telling and retelling. We
produce books in print and digital formats, as well as video documentaries, that are given to the
next of kin at no cost to them and sold at retail to extended family, friends, and interested
members of the public. The Price of Freedom Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit that serves the
memory of those who have given all in military service to our nation.

EXPECTATIONS OF A BIOGRAPHICAL RESEARCHER

At the heart of what we do stands research.
Gold Star Families must give us permission to proceed with telling the story of their Fallen loved
one’s life. When they enter into a service agreement with us, they are asked to provide
information on who knew their loved one, copies of military records, letters, photos, and videos,
etc. From this starting point, your role begins. You will need to:

● Review provided information to extract key biographical data - dates and locations of
birth, death, schools attended, entry into military service, places lived throughout the
course of their lives including military assignments; names of people who knew them -
family members, friends, teachers, coaches, etc.
● Locate and conduct outreach to people identified as knowing the Fallen to schedule
in-depth interviews.
● Seek out additional people who knew the Fallen through alumni associations, military
associations, and affinity groups as appropriate.
● For each physical location the Fallen had lived in or been assigned to, obtain information
about the geography, climate, and events that occurred during the timeframe they were
there.
● Conduct reviews of public records and news sources for additional information related to
the Fallen.
● Record/store all information discovered on shared drives for collaboration with the
biography writer and organization staff.
● Make recommendations on process improvement as this is a young and developing
organization.

Military Terminology Understanding:

A significant part of this role involves understanding military terminology, including acronyms
and unit designations, as you will be working with military records and contacting military
organizations for information. Applicants must be comfortable researching and understanding
military acronyms, ranks, and designations. Familiarity with military units and their structures will
be essential for identifying relevant associations and outreach groups.
