Whether you want to see the impact you make in the lives of patients directly or prefer to work behind the scenes, we invite you to become a member of a dedicated group of compassionate caregivers who serve as vital members of our hospice team. Star Hospice - a proud member of the LHC Group family - has been serving Lake, Cook, and McHenry Counties for over 40 years, and we have the honor of being a level 4 We Honor Veterans partner.

Hospice volunteers often say that helping those in need at a critical point in their lives is profoundly and emotionally meaningful. To learn how you can become a hospice volunteer in your community, please contact our volunteer services manager, Codie Ford, by calling (847.672.9225) or emailing (codie.ford@lhcgroup.com).

4 Reasons to Become a Hospice Volunteer

#1 You can make a real difference - in your own life and in the lives of others.
#2 You'll be part of a community - and a team - dedicated to helping those facing life's most difficult circumstances.
#3 You can enhance your personal and professional growth.
#4 You can choose your own schedule and participate in activities you enjoy and are passionate about.

Hospice volunteers provide non-clinical, companionship visits to hospice patients that include:

+ friendly conversations
+ sharing stories
+ reading to patients
+ watching TV and movies together
+ playing cards
+ writing letters or cards
+ listening to music together.

Volunteers may also provide supportive care by just being present with a patient and providing respite time for the family/caregiver.
