ORGANIZATION: THE GATHERING PLACE

Volunteers work from 8:15-12 or 12-3:30 or Saturday 8:15- 12 noon on a day of their choice. There is always a supervisor on with two other volunteers. We listen, make coffee, visit with our guests... .... Treat everyone with dignity and respect. Go with the flow.... and Laugh a lot. Mission Statement

To provide a safe, welcoming, and comfortable space for people to gather in downtown Brunswick, offering our guests respect, encouragement, help with the practical problems of life, companionship and hope.

Description

The Gathering Place was founded in Brunswick, Maine in 2010 to give daytime shelter, friendship and hope to the materially poor or homeless. On its first day, The Gathering Place received 7 guests. Now on a typical day , we warmly welcome between 80 and 100 guests. In the nine years that we have been open, we have been visited over 175,000 times.
