· Full-time position, providing exceptional quality care and enrichment for injured and orphaned wildlife
· To carefully follow and adhere to established protocols and processes giving wildlife the best possible chance to return to the wild
· Animal advocates who contribute as part of a broader team in a safe place where we come together to learn and understand living with wildlife
Duties and responsibilities
· Provide fresh water and food as per the feeding schedule
· Food preparation that includes handling of raw animal meat, preparing formula, cutting fruits and vegetables, and measuring/weighing food portions
· Hand and tube feeding, mostly during orphaned wildlife baby season
· Maintain health and feeding records for animals in the rehabilitation program
· Immediate reporting of any observed changes in animal behavior and/or health to staff
· Clean indoor cages such as disinfecting, replacing bedding, etc
· Preparing enrichment for animals in outdoor pre-release enclosures
· Wash and disinfect food prep areas, dishes, bottles, and syringes
· Assist with animal intake
· Help with transfer / release of animals into the wild, as required
· Contribute to wildlife enclosure enrichment
· Closely adhere to all policies, protocols and proceses
· Complete daily sundry duties as assigned ie: sweep and mop floors, garbage removal, cleaning volunteer bathrooms and common rooms or other cleaning and organizing tasks
· Attend weekly team meetings
Qualifications
· Minimum 18 years of age
· Up to date Rabies vaccinations; tetanus vaccination highly recommended
· Covid-19 double vaccines are mandatory
· Experience in hand and tube feeding an asset
· Strong communication skills both oral and written (English)
· Mature, reliable, and conscientious with commitment to quality
· Ability to take initiative to complete tasks without having to be asked
· Able to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting
· Comfortable in building relationships with new people and cohabitating in close quarters with fellow teammates
Working conditions
· Fast paced environment with various animal care situations
· Able to work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude and calm demure
· Always working within a broader team, living on site with same individuals
· Able to work outdoors regardless of the weather conditions
· Free shared accommodations are provided; you are responsible for your own meals
· Comfortable working in remote area; nearest town is 40km away
· Minimum 4 consecutive weeks of service; except for baby season from mid-April to mid-July where 8 consecutive weeks of service is required
· Shifts are scheduled on a rotating basis 5 days a week; 2 days off may not be back-to-back
· Flexibility in working evenings and weekends or as required
