Description:
Seeking Teaching Assistants for a district-wide after-school art program.
Volunteer Teaching Assistants will be paired with a lead teacher, and will assist the lead teacher as they work with students in an 8 week afterschool program. While the program itself is 8 weeks, it recurs each term, so there is the possibility of long-term engagement if volunteers wish.
The afterschool program is designed by Doodles Academy; each term students dive into an engaging topic, using art as a tool to explore it. They are inspired by history, motivated by other artists, and encouraged to connect all of this to their own lives in creative ways. During the end of each 8 week session, students walk away with a final project that is as unique as they are. 10% of the slots available are scholarship slots. More, the classes are being used to workshop and test curricula that is released nationally on the Doodles Academy website, for free. We work to ensure that every child has access to a high-quality art education.
Applicants will need to have a background check run with the AAPS. The school would be an Ann Arbor based school, and the time is roughly 3:30-5:30. for 8 weeks starting in January. We will be supporting the following schools this Winter, and are prioritizing placing volunteers in the bolded schools below:
- A2 steam
- Bach
- Abbot
- Allen
- Angell
- Bryan
- Carpenter
- Dicken
- Lakewood
- Wines
Teachers and their assistants will be responsible for teaching 6-16 students with a supplied curriculum, working with and providing updates to the manager (including visual media and student testimonials).
