The Jennie Goas Silverman Foundation is looking for volunteer event support for our 5th annual JGS Gala: Deadly Famous. Our gala will gather family, friends and community together to raise funds for CPS students college/university scholarship program and for research and development for triple negative breast cancer. Our event aims to put a spotlight on the spirit Jennie carried through her life- helping educate the under serviced high school students of Chicago and giving back so that hopefully one day there will be a cure for triple negative breast cancer. Currently we are support 8 scholarship recipients and provide medical research grants for TNBC.

Volunteers for this event will be needed for the following roles:

1) Registration and Guest Greeting
2) Circulating crowd to sell raffle tickets
3) Step & Repeat/Photobooth attendant
4) Helping event auction staff to get items to guests or in transportation
5) Photography- we are in search of a volunteer photography
6) Pre-event support for donations

Our events are a blast and we have a very laid back approach to our volunteer work, we want our volunteers to enjoy the event as well. Jennie loved to give back and make sure people were having a good time so we take that seriously.

Mission Statement

The Jennie Goas Silverman Foundation's mission is to spread the sparkle, spirit, and brilliance that Jennie brought to all her interactions in the following ways: By creating a scholarship to fund to encourage and aid underprivileged students in the community Jennie taught (CPS) By raising awareness and funds through philanthropy to support the research of triple negative breast cancer By hosting an annual fundraiser to gather Jennie's community together and raise funds and awareness for the cause

Description

The Jennie Goas Silverman Foundation was created with love by some of Jennie's closest friends to honor her spirit, sparkle and brilliance. Jennie was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in June of 2016 and fought a hard battle with this devastating disease until she passed away on May 20, 2017. Jennie was a special person who impacted the lives of the people she touched. First and foremost she was a daughter, sister, wife and friend, and she always took those roles seriously. Next, she was a teacher, a high school math teacher in the CPS system. She was beautiful inside and out, she was generous, she was brilliant, she was humble and she was kind. These qualities have inspired us to create this foundation and continue to help her spirit live on through philanthropy.

The Jennie Goas Silverman Foundations fundraising efforts have a dual approach:

1) Raise funds to award a qualified senior year student(s) in the communities Jennie taught with a scholarship to attend a 4-year college.

2) Raise funds and awareness for Triple Negative Breast Cancer research.

Through our mission we hope to give back to the community Jennie lived and worked in and continue to fight in her honor to find a cure for triple negative breast cancer.
