What is AmeriCorps VISTA? AmeriCorps VISTA is a federal program that mobilizes volunteers in the spirit of service across the nation. As an AmeriCorps member in the VISTA program, you will support an organization to make sustainable change in areas that effect poverty, including education, public health, climate, access to benefits, and more. Through activities such as fundraising, grant writing, research, and volunteer recruitment, you will gain professional experience and leadership skills. This opportunity prepares you for a life of service in the public, private, or nonprofit sector.
Goal of the Overall VISTA Project: Be the greater good in your community! The Civic Engagement Program Assistant VISTA member for the Department of Student Leadership at Kennesaw State University will assist the department’s staff with implementing programs and services that allow students to learn more about and engage in civic engagement. The VISTA member will research emerging practices and trends, train student volunteers, implement programmatic activities, and build partnerships to support civic engagement opportunities for the campus community.
Member Duties:
1. The Civic Engagement VISTA will provide support for the Student Leadership Department in developing high-impact civic engagement programs and services for Kennesaw State University students.
2. Provide capacity for the development of high-impact civic engagement practices.
3. Develop sustainability plans for civic engagement outreach efforts.
4. Develop a promotion plan for civic engagement activities.
5. Train student leaders and other campus partners on workshops and civic engagement initiatives.
6. Create a manual for implementing civic engagement initiatives, services, and workshops.
7. Recruit and train students and Student Leadership staff to sustain ongoing civic engagement opportunities within the Department of Student Leadership.
Program Benefits: Childcare assistance if eligible, Relocation Allowance, Stipend, Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend, Education award upon successful completion of service, Health Coverage, bi-weekly Living Allowance, Hybrid work schedule option (1 remote day per week)
