"Everyone wants to be the sun to lighten up another’s life, but why not be the moon, to brighten their darkest hour."

The prospect of facing death alone is among the greatest fears for a hospice patient. Our Brightoning Your Final Hours Volunteers help to ease that fear for patients who either have no family or friends, or whose family and friends have limited availability to be with them on their final journey.

BYFH volunteers spend time at the bedside of a fragile patient during his/her final days or hours. This role is not about doing, it’s about simply being present with another person while creating a comforting atmosphere within the room. We want to make their transition as peaceful as possible.

Brighton Hospice is guided by our commitment to excellence in providing patient-centered care. Our volunteers receive specialized training and ongoing support that prepares you for this role. We also provide infection control education and any necessary PPE to ensure you are prepared and comfortable in your role as a patient companion.

The amount of time you give is flexible and scheduled around your availability. We do take into account your location to assign patient visits that are within or near your own community. We currently have a need for hospice companions in the Cudahy area.

Contact Peggy, Volunteer Coordinator, at: 262-794-3980 or pczarnik@brightonhospice.com, for more information on becoming a Hospice Companion with Brighton Hospice. You can also find us on the web at www.brightonhospice.com.
