RAFT’s Maker Mobile Van Program services schools and communities in the greater San Jose region. We bring all the tools and materials to engage students and educators in a wide range of hands-on STEAM activities that encourage creativity, ingenuity, and experimentation. These events include makerspace builds, STEAM kit builds, and design challenge activities. We seek volunteers to help co-facilitate our Maker Mobile activities with students in grades K-8. You will be partnered with one of our experienced RAFT Education Team members. This is a great opportunity to work directly with students in a fun and highly engaging learning environment. Join us in inspiring the next generation of innovators, problem solvers, and creators! WHAT WOULD YOU DO ● Help with Maker Mobile activities and materials preparations. ● Support the facilitation of Maker Mobile activities for K-8 grade students under the supervision of RAFT staff. ● Help with setup and take down of school sites and community Maker Mobile activities. WHOM WE ARE LOOKING FOR We need volunteers who are available during the school week and can meet us at a school site for a half or full day. Maker Mobile events typically start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. Most schools we serve are within Santa Clara County. This is a great opportunity for retired teachers, engineers, and those interested in pursuing a career in education. Although it is not required, a background in STEAM (Science, Technology, Education, Arts and/or Math) would be helpful. VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS: ● Participate in mandatory volunteer training ● Willingness to work with students in grades K-8 ● Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. ● Ability to stand for long periods when working with students ● Can commit at least two full days a month ● Comfort with using handheld power tools such as impact drivers (Optional) ● Proof of vaccination and at least one booster shot against COVID ● Complete compliance training ● Clear TB test and background check (paid for by RAFT) If interested, please submit a letter of interest and include a resume, if available, to Human Resources, at HR@Raft.net.
