ORGANIZATION: DOROT, Inc

Senior on Brownstone Steps

Help and connect with your older neighbors by running errands, going shopping, assisting with tasks, providing company during an activity or outing, and more through volunteering with DOROT's Response Team.

Volunteering with DOROT's Response Team offers lots of flexibility. You will receive notifications about opportunities and choose those that are convenient for your schedule. Opportunities range from one-time activities to weekly activities depending on the request.

Opportunities include

  • Walking together in the older adult's neighborhood
  • Organizing paperwork or mail
  • Playing cards or board games
  • Accompanying the older adult to visit a museum, concert or other outing
  • Running errands
  • Shopping
  • And more!

Birthday celebrations are also an important Response Team activity. Response Team volunteers can sign up to call older adults on their birthdays and/or to visit and deliver a small gift, cake, and card (provided by DOROT) to older adults on or near their birthdays. Many do not have anyone else to celebrate with and find these celebrations especially meaningful.

DOROT is a social services organization dedicated to addressing social isolation and promoting social connections for older adults. DOROT is headquartered in Manhattan. We welcome volunteers ages 18+ and especially those 50+ to volunteer in a wide-ranging set of roles.
