Tax Counselors provide free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers in Citrus County during the tax season. They will review taxpayer information and determine filing and dependency status; electronically prepare the tax return with IRS provided computers and software; maintain taxpayer privacy and security of data. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide adheres to current CDC social distancing and masking guidelines.

THE NATION'S LARGEST, FREE, VOLUNTEER RUN TAX COUNSELING AND PREPARATION PROGRAM. VOLUNTEERS ASSIST ANYONE, WITH A FOCUS ON TAXPAYERS WHO ARE OVER 50 AND HAVE LOW TO MODERATE INCOME.

Description

A CHARITABLE, NON-PROFIT, INDIVIDUAL TAX PREPARATION PROGRAM ADMINISTERED BY THE AARP FOUNDATION IN COOPERATION WITH THE IRS.

DEPENDING ON LOCATION. SERVICE IS PROVIDED IN PERSON OR VIRTUALLY FROM FEB 1 THROUGH APRIL 15 EACH YEAR. FREE SERVICE INCLUDES ELECTRONIC FILING. VOLUNTEER POSITIONS INCLUDE LEADERSHIP, TECHNOLOGY, ADMINISTRATIVE, TAX COUNSELORS, AND NON-COUNSELORS.

IN 2024, WITH THE HELP OF NEARLY 28,000 VOLUNTEERS, AARP FOUNDATION TAX-AIDE HAD A VERY SUCCESSFUL SEASON BY SECURING ALMOST $1.3 BILLION IN TOTAL REFUNDS FOR NEARLY 1.7 MILLION PEOPLE AT ALMOST 3,500 LOCATIONS.

  • There is a minimum of one 4-hour shift per week between Feb 1 and Apr 17.
  • Must be comfortable using a laptop computer and email. A 5-day training course is held on-site or online in early January. Self-study with IRS materials. Mileage reimbursement provided by AARP Foundation.
