Compeer Youth is a program that matches youth 6-17 with mental health or behavioral health concern in group mentoring and one-to-one relationships with peer mentors. The volunteer's job is to provide social, recreational, and academic experiences which integrate the child into the community. Once a match has been made, the mentor and mentee will spend four hours per month in their group or one-to-one setting. Mentorship provides youth with connection, support, and social skills to help them navigate through their recovery process. Though not a clinical model, Compeer’s evidence based model provides the emotional and social support to compliment clinical interventions. Meeting may take place in school settings, at after school sites, or in community spaces like the library.

Youth participants will be matched with a single volunteer based on shared interests and lived experience. Matches are not made on a first-come-first-serve basis for this reason. All match meetings will take place at one of our site-specific agencies or virtually via phone calls, texts, etc.

Volunteers and youth participants agree to meet virtually or on site weekly for an hour or every other week for two hours with a commitment of one year. We are accepting applications for 2024!

To become a group or one-to-one mentor, please fill out an application on our website: https://www.clevelandcountymha.org/compeer-volunteer-application
