SpiritCare is looking for volunteer chaplains who can lead worship and communion services in residential facilities for the elderly. These may be assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation or skilled nursing communities.
You must live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area. You also need to be able to drive around the Bay Area to visit care communities.
SpiritCare will provide you with Christian hymns to sing with residents, so it is helpful if you are able to lead singing. You may work with SpiritCare's board and volunteers to recruit accompanists, singers and worship assistants.
A service is typically 30 minutes to an hour in length, depending on the number of residents coming to a service in a facility. You will be flexible as facilities may close if they have a 'flu, COVID or other outbreak.
Services are typically during the day, midweek. Occasionally, there's an opportunity for Saturday or Sunday afternoon services.
You are encouraged to expand SpiritCare's ministry by being an ambassador for our mission among your peers. You are encouraged to find new locations to serve. This starts as a volunteer opportunity, but if you serve more than 2 locations then together we may consider raising the funds to pay you a salary.
This ministry serves people of all faiths and none, so you must be welcoming to people of all backgrounds in your services. We expect all volunteers to be passionate about our mission on https://www.spiritcareministry.org/our-mission.html.

Description
For over 30 years we have provided worship services in care communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. We need volunteers who can help with the services by accompanying hymn-singing on a piano, singing, reading scripture and helping hand-out music. We also need volunteers to help with our administration, helping in outreach to volunteers and volunteer management. We serve over 60 care communities in the San Francisco Bay Area and are looking for volunteer pastors who can take a home and provide a communion service once a month there. We served about 1400 residents a month in care communities. We need people who can visit regularly to chat with older adults one-on-one - maybe read a story, share a game, pray with people or share pictures. We also need board members who have a passion for helping older adults and agree with our mission to help raise funds. This is a ministry that families with children can participate in. Children can communicate with elders by sharing their stories, pictures and toys. The ministry also helps children develop public speaking and musical talent by encouraging them to help in the worship services - for example a group of children may sing a song or play music with a guitar. We also have talented musical children who can give recitals of acoustic instruments.
