Hospice Volunteers provide a valuable service and are considered a member of the hospice team. Volunteers provide services and support to individuals with terminal illness and their families The primary goal of a hospice volunteer is to provide empathy and companionship to both the patient and their loved ones during this challenging time. Volunteers’ duties vary depending on the needs of the person they are caring for.
At times, you will sit and visit with patients and provide companionship and support. Other times, you may play cards or checkers or read aloud from the newspaper or share a good book together. In essence, you provide a comforting presence, and an opportunity to share memories at a time where people are most vulnerable and could benefit greatly from your presence.
If you have a strong aptitude for compassion and empathy and are personable, friendly, and open to new perspectives, please reach out via email and we will be in touch soon to share about the many ways you can volunteer with Methodist Hospice.
