Be the greater good! Join the AmeriCorps VISTA program and be the change in our community.
What is AmeriCorps VISTA? Members serving in the AmeriCorps VISTA program serve full time for one-year terms. They build capacity in nonprofit organizations and public agencies to help them more effectively generate the commitment of private sector resources, encourage volunteer service at the local level, and empower individuals and communities.
Description: The KSU Food Forest VISTA will conduct research and create outreach materials in the following interrelated areas, for the purpose of developing and sharing related educational materials with the KSU community: small-scale regenerative gardening, hunger, and food security, with a particular focus on Atlanta, and protecting pollinators in Georgia. The KSU Food Forest VISTA will create materials and manage the KSU Food Forest social media outlets (Instagram, the KSU Food Forest YouTube channel, websites). The KSU Food Forest VISTA will be given experience with regenerative agriculture through service at the KSU Field Station. The KSU Food Forest VISTA may be asked to participate in the installation of a food forest project in an Atlanta-based community.
Member Duties: The KSU Food Forest VISTA will have a sustainability emphasis and will help build the capacity of the KSU Food Forest Developers to address the issue of food security and educate students and the community about public health issues surrounding food insecurity. This service will include the development and maintenance of the KSU Food Forest site and other projects at the KSU Field Station.
Program Benefits: Relocation Allowance, Health Coverage, Childcare assistance if eligible, Stipend, Training, Education award upon successful completion of service, Bi-Weekly Paid Living Allowance, Choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend
