Purpose: State directors for Animal Wellness Action (AWA) and the Center for a Humane Economy (CHE) help animals by extending the reach of the organization’s branding, programs, and priorities into key states. State directors are generalists who works to advance our organizational goals through a wide range of strategies, across a wide range of animal issues, and with a wide range of people who have diverse political views, backgrounds, and beliefs.
Here are priority projects and areas of focus for the state director
- Setting a statewide agenda for reform
- Identify legislative priorities in the state legislature and lobby on priority items as available.
- Play defense on anti-animal efforts undertaken by animal-use players.
- Support pro-animal county and city ordinances and resolutions where appropriate.
- To the extent practical, and only with AWA resources, organize electioneering activities to favor pro-animal candidates and to oppose anti-animal…

We need not accept the idea of routine cruelty in agriculture, entertainment, wildlife management, or any other part of our economy and culture. Together, by adopting new standards through political channels and reinforcing what business leaders are doing and ready to do, we can create a new normal when it comes to our human relationship with animals.
