Are you passionate about mental health and serving our youth community? Do you have 10 hours a month that you can devote to bettering our community? Consider joining the ACS Board of Directors!

The Board of Directors of Adolescent Counseling Services is empowered by the by-laws to oversee the affairs and activities of the organization. This includes developing agency policy, approving the annual budget, and determining the goals of the agency. Members of the Board of Directors are expected to support the Mission and to respect the values and culture of the organization. It is the mission of ACS, as a non-profit agency, to empower teens and their families in our community to realize their emotional and social potential through counseling and preventive education.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Understand and convey the Agency’s work and values to the community, represent the Agency, and act as a spokesperson for the Agency.
  2. Attend monthly Board meetings (currently held in-person or virtually), actively participate in at least one Board committee, and attend special Agency events.
  3. Stay informed about the work and activities of the Agency by reading the Board packet prior to each monthly meeting.
  4. Participate in and take responsibility for making decisions on issues, budgets, policies and other Board matters.
  5. Work in good faith with staff and other Board members as partners toward achievement of Agency goals.
  6. Avoid conflict of interest between position as a Board member and your professional and personal life.
  7. Support ACS' fundraising efforts by hosting and inviting your network to Discover ACS tours, making Thank-You calls to donors, and/or hosting a table at ACS fundraising events.
  8. Attend an annual Board Retreat once a year.

Adolescent Counseling Services (ACS) empowers youth in our community to find their way through social-emotional support and by building safe, accepting communities.

Description

Founded in 1975, ACS currently implements four core programs in Santa Clara and San Mateo County communities:

  • Community Counseling Program - Outpatient mental health assessment, treatment and education for teens and their families in the general community and at local Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula
  • Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Program - A harm reduction outpatient treatment program providing treatment to teens and families struggling with drug and/or alcohol abuse, as well as community prevention education
  • Outlet - A program serving Bay Area Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ+) teens, families, and supportive allies with support group counseling, leadership training, and education in both Spanish and English.
  • On-Campus Counseling Program - Bilingual on-site individual and family counseling, crisis intervention, mental health education, and support at no cost to students/families attending local middle and high schools
