Help us package and deliver meals for students in Cohoes through our BackPack program! In conjunction with the Regional Food Bank, we provide qualifying students with healthy weekend meals to ensure that they are able to start school each week, ready to learn.

Volunteers will assist in packing each BackPack and then deliver the bags to the student's home in Cohoes. Other tasks that we may ask people to help with include breaking down boxes we receive and moving our overstock inventory to ensure that we are following a "first in, first out" system with the food we receive.

There are two available Friday shifts for interested BackPack volunteers:

  • From 7:30 to 8:30 am, we package dry goods and produce
  • From 8:30 to 9:00 am, volunteer drivers deliver a route of 3-5 BackPacks to homes in Cohoes

Volunteers may sign up for one or both shifts. If you have any questions or would like to sign a large group up to volunteer, please reach out to us by emailing us at backpack@connectcenterforyouth.org

About Connect Center

Location:

PO BOX 35, COHOES, NY 12047, US

Mission Statement

To break the cycle of poverty by connecting youth to their full potential; to be a community hub for connection and empowerment; we will provide youth development programming alongside community aid initiatives in order to provide support in a holistic manner.

Description

The Connect Center is a community youth center located in Cohoes, NY and established as a 501(c)3 organization in 2012. The concept for the Connect Center was born out of a need in Cohoes, a walking city, where youth did not yet have a safe place to not only exist for free, but to explore their interests. We work in collaboration with other local organizations, businesses and the school system. With no major donors, the project has been a labor of love over the past eight years and carries no debt.

The Connect Center features a large co-working space, the Connect Kitchen, and the S.T.E.A.M. lab. The Connect Kitchen is a professional level kitchen certified for use through the Albany County Department of Health. The Connect S.T.E.A.M. lab currently consists of a music studio and a black box theater.

The Connect Center is currently working to complete the S.T.E.A.M. lab's technology hub and Stage 49, the media rooms. The technology hub will be a space where community members can learn about computers and coding. Stage 49 will consist of a green room and movie making equipment along with an editing room. Additionally, the Connect Center is seeking funding to finish construction of the upstairs recreational portion of the center consisting of a multipurpose gym, a fitness area, a computer lab, a classroom, a recreation lounge, an office, and two bathrooms.
