ORGANIZATION: Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care

Parker Jewish Institute

Greets and welcomes visitors to the gift shop; assists with sales; assists with delivery of merchandise to patient rooms; assists staff with checking in new items and pricing.

TRAINING and EDUCATION

  • Must complete general orientation provided by the Department of Volunteers
  • Participate in on-the-job training provided by Gift Shop Manager
  • Review the Gift Shop Procedure Manual
  • Sign in and out of the online Volunteer website

ESSENTIAL TASKS

  • Assist customers with merchandise, answer questions
  • Ring sales on register as requested
  • Keep shop neat and clean
  • POSSIBLE TASKS (based on volunteer interest)
  • Assist manager when new merchandise arrives- (check items against invoice, place price stickers on merchandise)
  • Help prepare displays within the Gift Shop
  • Sell NY State Lottery Products once training is provided.

PROCEDURES

  1. Check with staff about new items on the floor, and other information you may need
  2. Fill in any empty display areas including candy. Maintain stock throughout the day
  3. Greet customers when they come into shop. (Hello, Welcome to Parker or Good Morning)
  4. Assist customers, including patients/residents with merchandise selection and purchases
  5. Be visible and available for customers at all times

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to communicate with diverse populations.
  • Must be able to follow directions
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time

PERSONAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE

  • Have a friendly, positive attitude
  • Ability to work with detailed information and follow directions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting and reaching
  • Must be able to read and speak English in simple, understandable terms
  • Must have intact sense of sight and hearing

MACHINES, TOOLS and EQUIPMENT

  • Cash register,, lottery terminal, telephone, copier and wheelchairs

LENGTH OF COMMITMENT

  • One 4 hour shift per week with a minimum one year commitment
