Equest Special Riders offers basic horsemanship to individuals with disabilities. We have 3 classes on Saturday mornings from 10am to 1pm. You must be 14 or older and able to walk for 45 minutes at a time in a sand arena. We are looking for volunteers that can come on a consistent basis each week. That can be every week, every other week or maybe just one or two sessions a Saturday. Our ability to offer classes depends on knowing if we have enough volunteers to ensure safe classes for our riders.
No horse experience required. We have a training program. You will be able to groom, help tack up the horses and walk along side to ensure our riders have a safe ride.
Horseback riding develops self-confidence and coordination and strengthens muscles. Attention span increases and self-esteem in elevated. During their lessons, riders receive instruction in basic horsemanship as well as specialized activities for their individual disabilities
