Wings of Hope Mission Statement:
Our mission is to honor the lives of those who have passed while on hospice care by providing for those currently in need. Wings of Hope supports partnered hospices in the San Antonio community with the assistance of organizations that help patients and their loved ones experience the best possible quality of living, even as they face end of life.

Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer experience within the hospice care field? Want to give back to senior citizens, especially when some need it the most? Wings of Hope has an amazing volunteer position for you! We will work with your schedule and location--whether in person or remote--so you can help out those that need it the most. Whether once, or ongoing, an hour or ten, we only have one question for you:
When can you start?

For our Hummingbird Hospice patient volunteers, you can choose which of the following you would like to be involved in:
-Offering emotional support to patients & family members; just being there for those in hospice care, or their family members can make a world of difference
-Reading to them--bring your own favorite piece of literature or choose one of theirs!
-Listening to stories & engaging in conversation--being with them and reminding them that people still want to hear from them can make a world of difference
-Helping write letters to loved ones; also writing letters to them
-Caring for pets
-Assisting with light housekeeping
-Assisting with Hospice Aides & Nurses
-Meal Preparation or grocery runs

Mission Statement

The mission of Wings of Hope (WOH) is to honor members of the community who have passed while in hospice care. WOH enhances the quality of life for patients and families through outreach programs and services and supports unfunded and under-funded patient care for those facing advanced illness and grief. Our supporters enable us to continue to provide community programs and compassionate care to all who need it, regardless of ability to pay

Description

Wings of Hope was formed to help close the gap on non-insurance-covered services and equipment for hospice patients and their caregivers. Many terminally ill patients have requirements and needs that insurance will not fully support and require additional services that become a financial burden during an already difficult time. Wings of Hope steps in to provide these services. Whether it be placement in a care home for someone who is uninsured, podiatry or dental visits, specialized medical equipment, or meals, Wings of Hope volunteers are there to assist where needed. We also provide bereavement support, companionship, and education on how to care for a loved one. Our volunteer programs are either clinical, working with patients and hospice nursing staff, or administrative, working in the office and assisting with business operations.
