Diablo Valley Literacy Council is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to assist adults in the Diablo Valley (Central Costa County) area who need to improve their English as a second language. We offer free, flexible one-on-one ESL tutoring. Volunteer tutors attend orientation, currently scheduled twice a year, and are then matched with a student. The tutor and student decide together when and where to meet for their one-on-one sessions.
We are seeking someone to assume the role of President in 2025.
This person would:
Supervise and oversee the affairs of the organization
Create agenda for monthly Board and annual Membership meetings
Send agenda to all Board members prior to meeting
Preside at meetings
Submit annual volunteer hours summary to ProLiteracy
Delegate responsibilities to accomplish operations of the organization

Diablo Valley Literacy Council is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to assist adults in the Diablo Valley (Central Costa County) area who need to improve their English as a second language. We offer free, flexible one-on-one ESL tutoring.
Description
BECOME a TUTOR - No teaching experience is necessary and English need not be your first language. You will help non-English speaking adults to learn the English language. Our organization will teach you how to be a tutor! We will train you, match you to a student and help you get started with your one-on-one tutoring. We ask that you commit one or two hours per week -- all meetings are arranged by you and your student at a time most convenient for both of you. Through your tutoring you may help an adult student to get a better job, apply for citizenship, read to their children....there are so many possibilities!
Diablo Valley Literacy Council holds two workshops per year at the Good Lutheran Shepherd Church on Clayton Road. The workshops are held the spring and fall and open enrollment year around.
A small registration fee will help cover the cost of the workshop and training materials.
