Food Pantry Volunteer
Project READ is a free, volunteer-based literacy program serving adults, children and families. Our intergenerational programs are designed to break the cycle of illiteracy by surrounding adults, youth and families with literacy services that promote education and a lifelong love of learning.
In collaboration with Second Harvest Silicon Valley, Project READ provides food assistance to hundreds of our families each week from our food pantry. In addition to providing fresh produce, dry goods, refrigerated items and household staples, we offer food nutrition education and literacy activities for children and adults.
Volunteer responsibilities include:
-Preparing and bagging produce and other food items
-Unloading van (ability to lift up to 50lbs) and transporting produce boxes into the building
-Stocking pantry items
-Setting up tables and chairs
-Breaking down boxes
-Cleaning tables and floor
-Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required
-Weekly commitment preferred, but not required
Morning shift:
Tuesday 11am-12pm for produce bag preparation
Afternoon shift:
Tuesday 1:45 - 3pm for food distribution
