With your email, please provide all of the following information:

  1. Cover letter describing how you would approach the goals stated here, in our GlobalGiving project description: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/palestine-pku-children/#menu

  2. Your resume, and

  3. Three references
Referred to as an 'inborn error of metabolism', Phenylketonuria (PKU) impacts some 600 children & adults in Gaza and the West Bank. Untreated PKU results in cumulative, permanent brain damage and is life-threatening - but with monitoring, coaching, medical food supplements, and a low-protein diet, PKU children will lead full and healthy lives.

Our pilot project seeks to provide the 'Food Farmacy', family health coaching, and clinic staff training to assure Palestine's PKU children safe PHE numbers and good health.

Until recently In Palestine, children with PKU faced a horrifying shortage of medical food. Now both Ministries of Health and the U.N.'s Health Cluster made PKU care a priority, however, health care providers and parents don't understand the risks of standard diets and the role of medical food supplements. Normal blood phenylalanine, or phe measures less than 2.0 mg/dl but if PKU patients eat a standard diet, their PHE levels go way up, causing brain damage. A whole new approach is needed.

The Project Leader is asked to report to all-volunteer advisory team who are meeting twice a month. We start small with the goal of raising significant funds to include paid staffing downstream.

  • As team leader, you will be responsible for managing the project, and coordinating with the implementation teams to request and evaluate their implementation proposals, then request and review their reports, and posting to Social Media and to the GlobalGiving reporting system.

  • You'll want to build a team of volunteers to assist you

About Rebuilding Alliance

Location:

50 Woodside Plaza Ste. 627, Redwood City, CA 94061, US

Mission Statement

Rebuilding Alliance is dedicated to advancing equal rights for the Palestinian people through education, advocacy, and support that assures Palestinian families the right to a home, schooling, economic security, safety, and a promising future.

Description

We learned early-on that to build in war-torn communities one must partner locally with non-governmental organizations that hold the trust of the local community and maintain the highest standards of fiscal and personal integrity.

Everyone who works at Rebuilding Alliance is committed to building peace and justice through programs that make a tangible difference and together, we do our best to make RA a great place to work. Many who have joined RA as interns or in entry-level jobs have gone on to their dream-job or pursued advanced degrees.

One of our past interns wrote the following:

"I always talk about interning with Rebuilding Alliance as one of my most important, challenging and formative work experiences, especially when I'm in interviews. You asked and expected big things of me right away, and I'm so grateful for that - coordinating a teleconference series, making phone calls to important peacekeepers, offering insights in team meetings, updating our internet presence. These are skills that I value so highly, and that I'm sure will be so important as I enter this industry that is entirely new to me. I would also like to stay in touch with you and Rebuilding Alliance and help in any way I can in the coming years, whether through donations or volunteering my time when I'm back in the Bay Area."
