Seeking Mentors Who Want To Encourage Minority Business Owners

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: SCORE San Francisco

Mentoring 1-on-1

At San Francisco SCORE, our mentors come from every possible background with the single unifying factor that we all have had successful careers in the business community and are willing to help mentor, for free, entrepreneurs and business owners. Sometimes, though, we get requests from minority-owned business clients who would prefer working with mentors with similar ethnic identities. We really need Black and Hispanic mentors to honor the requests of these small business owners. Please apply if you have several hours weekly to help mentor.

SCORE is a nonprofit resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration and is the largest volunteer organization in the US that helps aspiring and existing entrepreneurs succeed. Our main activity is providing free mentoring services and low cost workshops. Volunteering is a way for you to give back and share your knowledge.

We offer three areas for which you may volunteer. If you have at least 20 hours monthly, you might consider becoming a long-term, "Lead Mentor" for a small business client. If you have at least 10 hours monthly and specialized knowledge to share, you could become an adjunct co-mentor, known as a Subject Matter Expert (SME). Finally, a Workshop Presenter could expect to commit about 5 hours monthly and could present topics in any specialized area either online or hybrid (mix of in-person and online). You may volunteer in multiple categories.

Some of the current areas of need include Mentors and SMEs willing to help start-ups from scratch, business generalists, restaurateurs, spreadsheet and taxes, QuickBooks, and online sales & marketing whizzes including but not limited to building websites, SEO, e-commerce, selling on Amazon, e-marketing, and social media marketing.

If you would like to help local aspiring entrepreneurs from across the demographic spectrum of your community, please contact us to volunteer. We may be reached at admin@sfscore.org, or you may contact us here via Volunteer Match.

Thank you for your support!!
