Underground Railroad Exhibit Volunteer

In 2021, the B&O Railroad Museum became an officially designated Underground Railroad site. 27 freedom seekers are known to have used the B&O Railroad system to flee slavery, 8 of whom passed directly through the Mount Clare Station, where the Museum is located.

In September, the museum will be unveiling a new exhibit on the Underground Railroad, complete with immersive videos that share the stories of William & Ellen Craft, and Henry "Boxcar" Brown - all of whom used the B&O Railroad Museum site on their journey to freedom.

For the grand opening of the Exhibit, the museum is seeking volunteers to help greet guests, check ticket information, assist with the timed ticket entry flow, direct guests through the exhibit, start the videos inside the exhibit, and provide support to our Visitor Services team.

The ideal volunteer has strong social skills, a friendly demeanor, a passion for the importance of sharing Black history, and is comfortable interacting with a large number of visitors.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to experience the exhibit free of charge and will receive a pair of museum passes as a thank you.
