The Greater Cleveland Food Bank is recruiting volunteers to assist at our Healthy Choice Market!
Volunteer Duties Include:
- Assisting clients with shopping and item selection in the pantry.
- Assisting clients with loading their vehicles with food, as needed. Volunteers should physically be able to lift cases and bags of food weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Accepting retail product donations, weighing product, and recording the donation.
- Organizing and consolidating product onto pallets and into bins to make product look presentable for clients.
- Consolidating spoiled or damaged items for removal from the pantry.
- Removing excess cardboard, bins, and boxes.
- Sweeping and mopping as needed.
- Assisting clients as needed.
The Healthy Choice Market is a choice pantry which allows clients to select their own food instead of receiving a pre-packed or standard bag of groceries. With this method, clients do not have to take items they already have, do not like, or cannot eat for health or personal reasons.
Having the opportunity to choose their own food gives the people being served a sense of dignity and control, limits waste, and allows them to tailor the help they receive to be the best possible fit for their own unique situation. We encourage nudges or environmental cues to help clients select the healthiest food options available.
Volunteers must be 14 or older in order to participate.
