Mission Statement
Access to nutritious food is a basic human right. Our mission is to fight hunger among individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. At Our Shared Kitchen, we prepare and hand-deliver freshly-made, nutritious meals to unhoused and food-insecure individuals in Austin, Texas. Mindful of this community's limited access to healthy food, we strive to incorporate a mix of protein, vegetables and whole grains into our meals. By hand delivering our hot meals directly to the individuals we serve, we make our services more accessible to those who might otherwise have been unable to secure food at a fixed point of service like a shelter or soup kitchen. We emphasize connection and compassion, seeking to both support and engage the community we serve.
Description
At Our Shared Kitchen we prepare freshly-made, nutritious meals for unhoused and food-insecure individuals in Austin. Our hot meals are made from scratch and delivered directly to encampments and unsheltered individuals by our team. Our "mobile delivery" model and "boots on the ground" approach - plus our dedication to nutrition - sets us apart and uniquely positions us to meet the needs of Austin’s unhoused community.
OSK was started about a year ago in our founder's home kitchen in response to the overwhelming needs of Austin’s unhoused community and ongoing food insecurity crisis. And we are thrilled to have now transitioned into our brand new commercial kitchen space space at Prep Atx.Through partnerships with local organizations like Keep Austin Fed and Save the Food Austin, we source many of the ingredients for our meals from free rescued food items - simultaneously reducing food waste while fighting hunger in our community. And we have daily pickups of this rescued food at locations including Trader Joe's, Whole Food's, and Swedish Hill.
