TERM OF OFFICE: The ideal candidate will serve a term of three (3) years.
High-level Commitment Summary
Attendance at bi-monthly board meetings is required. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every other month at the Berkeley City Club from 5 pm-6:30 pm, with one all-day meeting annually. In case of pandemic restrictions, our meetings are carried out on Zoom. While your time and effort are essential, and every board member participates in fundraising and outreach activities, there is no personal financial obligation.
We want to ensure that every board member's appointment is successful. Therefore, we ask that each board candidate self-identify an area of interest and/or competency to serve on one of our committees (Fundraising, Policy, Strategy, or Financial) prior to their formal nomination. Service on a committee would last four months, or attendance at two committee meetings prior to the candidate’s nomination. This allows the candidate and Central Works an opportunity to determine if we are a good fit for each other.

Description
For the past 3 decades, Central Works has played a vital role in its community; we support local artists while bringing affordable, provocative world premiere plays to Bay Area audiences. Now in our 31 st season, we develop challenging new works by local playwrights. Each season, 60 or more artists, workers and volunteers participate as we perform for approximately 4,000 patrons in our unique 50-seat home at the Berkeley City Club.
Central Works fills a special niche for theater artists in the San Francisco Bay Area. We produce more new plays by local playwrights than any other company in the region.
