Help us reach 50,000 isolated seniors
Help us bring smiles to 50,000 isolated seniors. Join our My Dear Friend Campaign and write holiday cards to bring celebration and a sense of community into the lives of seniors.
Make Cards to Uplift Socially Isolated Seniors
Brighten someone’s day with a cheerful message to create a connection and remind them they’re not alone.
Every year, more than 3.3 million seniors spend time in senior homes across the United States. It’s estimated that 60% of them will never receive visitors, with the possibility of that number nearing 100%. Through this virtual card-making and letter-writing experience, you can do your part to alleviate the effects of social isolation for seniors living in residential care.
You’re welcome to use colored pencils, markers, pens, branded stationery, lined paper, or plain white printing paper. It’s not about the stationery-it’s the messages that are written that mean so much!
How it works:- Start each letter with the salutation "To my dear friend"
- Write large so the seniors can read your notes without assistance
- Share a little about yourself (your family, hobbies, work, pets, interests, etc.) or a positive message that will brighten their day
- Can’t find the words? Consider a drawing or painting
- To close the letter, include your first name and location (and for kids, their age)
- For delivery, you will have the option to send your physical card by mail or submit it digitally via email or the organization’s website.
- Stationery or paper
- Envelope
- Pen or pencil
- A postage stamp (optional)
- Craft supplies and decorations (optional)

Mission Statement
GlamourGals Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to organize and support volunteer chapters in high school and college who provide companionship and our signature program of complimentary beauty makeovers to elderly residents in senior care. Our impact is two fold: Elderly residents in care feel a renewed sense of community and self-worth. Teen Volunteers gain essential leadership skills demonstrating empathy and compassion through our intergenerational programming.
Description
GlamourGals is a nonprofit organization that organizes student-led chapters based in high schools (grades 9-12) and colleges across the country. Rachel Doyle founded GlamourGals in 2000 in memory of her grandmother. The first GlamourGals makeover took place in Commack, New York with only three volunteers. We currently have more than 1,700 volunteers in 16 states, and 100 chapters visiting senior homes in their communities. Our volunteers provide seniors with a restored sense of dignity through personal attention and warmth of caring touch, as well as the opportunity to share their stories. We also focus on leadership development for our volunteers, providing them with leadership training, mentorships, and professional development workshops.
