We rely on the generosity of individual volunteers and organized groups to help our kitchen team prepare the nutritious food our critically and chronically ill clients need to improve and maintain their health.

Every week, we prepare over 20,000 medically tailored meals for people and families across Massachusetts impacted by HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and more.

We have kitchen volunteer shifts every weekday from 9-12pm, 1-4pm, and 4-7pm. We can accommodate roughly 30 volunteers in our kitchens at all times, including organized groups.

Once in the kitchen, you’ll help our team peel and chop veggies, portion soups, stews, and salads, and pack meal bags for our clients.

Kitchen volunteers must be age 13+, and all new volunteers will receive an orientation from our team before the start of their shift.

All volunteers must be fully vaccinated and wear a face mask when inside our building. Required attire includes pants covering the ankles, long-sleeve shirts, and close-toed shoes. Hairnets and aprons will be provided.

Interested volunteers can sign up here https://www.servings.org/volunteer/individuals/
or contact nross@servings.org for more information.

Mission Statement

Community Servings’ mission is to actively engage the community to provide scratch-made medically tailored meals to individuals and their families experiencing critical or chronic illness and nutrition insecurity. We commit, in all our programs and business practices, to prioritize racial and economic justice and health equity. Vision: We envision a world in which everyone has access to the nutritious food they need for health and wellbeing as a fundamental right. Values: Community, Connection, Inclusion, and Nourishment.

Description

This year, we will provide over 875,000 meals to 4,000 critically ill individuals and their families. Our meals are made from scratch and medically tailored, meeting the medical and nutritional needs of our clients with HIV/AIDS, cancer, kidney disease, diabetes, and other life-threatening illnesses.

Community Servings’ Registered Dietitian Nutritionists work closely with our clients to develop individualized nutrition care plans to help them manage medical conditions and provide guidance for managing nutrition-related medication side effects and weight loss or gain.

As one of the largest volunteer programs in the area, we welcome an average of 600 volunteers per month to work in our kitchen and deliver meals. More than 53,000 volunteer hours are donated each year.
