underserved communities, such as the foreign-born, by offering culturally sensitive crisis services

Job Summary: Responsible for answering the crisis calls, completing pre-intakes
when necessary, and providing information and referrals to callers in a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed way.
Qualifications: Requires good communications skills, cultural competency, Ability to remain calm during crisis, and knowledge of trauma-informed care; must complete background check and AshaLine trainings. Multi-lingual and bilingual individuals preferred.
Major responsibilities:
* Answer crisis calls during their shift in a friendly, compassionate, and competent manner
* Be aware of up-to-date resources and information (provided by AshaKiran)
* Document calls accurately
* Connect callers to language line or refer them to AshaKiran interpreters when needed
* Notify on call staff in a timely manner if a caller is seeking shelter or has an emergency
* Complete pre-intakes if necessary
* Engage in safety planning when necessary
* Adequately refer clients to resources

Established in 2006 and headquartered in Huntsville, AL, AshaKiran, which translates to "a ray of hope," is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to serving individuals of South Asian and other foreign origins dealing with crises, such as domestic violence and sexual assault, by providing specific culturally sensitive services within our emergency shelter, our 24 HR Crisis AshaLine "Hope-Line" as well as our training workshops and presentations for other shelters and first responders throughout Alabama.
AshaKiran volunteers come from many countries and backgrounds, catering to more than 36+ languages and 100 dialects to overcome additional barriers individuals with foreign origins are faced with such as cultural, religious and language stigmas.
