Volunteering not only is a great way to give back to the community, but we have fun every chance we get. Hospice volunteering looks great on a college application or resume, and teaches you valuable knowledge if you're interested in the healthcare field. Hospice volunteering is also for those who have experienced the joys and challenges of life, and have the time and compassion to be present with patients/families living through a terminal illness. These are some areas we need volunteers:
We need volunteers in Limestone, Madison, and Marshall counties in AL at this time.
Hairdressers willing to go to a patient's home
Caregiver relief- so caregivers can run errands for a couple of hours
Veterans caring for Veterans
Light housekeeping/chores/errands for those who have limited time/mobility
Arts and crafts at facilities and senior centers (they love this!!!!)**
Bingo at facilities and senior centers (another senior favorite!!) **
Office work- birthday cards, comfort care calls, filing, bereavement support, etc. A great option if you're not comfortable in patient homes.
Parties at facilities for special occasions that usually includes an auction (residents love auctions)
The possibilities are endless on what a volunteer can do. What ideas do you have?
** Activities in facilities may be limited depending on the status of COVID-19 cases. **
