  • 12 people are interested

The Young Professionals Board (YPB) of the Uplift Center is seeking new members interested in helping support an impactful and fast growing organization in Philadelphia. Please see the description below and reach out if you are interested in applying.

About
The Young Professionals Board is Uplift’s (Uplift) primary channel to reach and engage with individuals in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. The Young Professionals Board works as a marketing, volunteer, and fundraising arm of Uplift. New members must bring an interest and ability to support Uplift’s mission to serve grieving children and families, a passion and enthusiasm towards fulfilling that mission, and an element of diversity to the membership body. An ideal candidate would embody the following characteristics:

  1. Passion for Uplift: Individual has a sincere interest in Uplift’s mission to support underserved, grieving children and families in the City of Philadelphia
  2. Passion for Volunteerism, Marketing, and Fundraising: Seeks to advance Uplift’s mission by leading the Young Professionals Board’s volunteer, marketing, and fundraising initiatives
  3. Desire to Contribute over the Long Term: Has a genuine interest in serving on a fiduciary Board of Uplift Center or another charity down the road.
  4. Strong Personal and Professional Network: Individual has access to individuals and/organizations with giving or collaborative potential, and is willing and able to introduce these networks to Uplift
  5. Diversity: Brings something new to the table in at least one of the following categories:
  • Skill, giving capacity, and/or connections that are unique and needed in the group
  • Diversity of background
  • Personal connection to the mission

Working with Uplift’s Young Professional Board allows each individual to not only give back and provide hope for grieving children but creates opportunity for professional development as well. Opportunities include expanding your professional network, building community leadership skills, and working with fellow board members to strengthen the foundation upon which Uplift can look to the YPB for support.

How to Apply:
Reach out to Kevin McGuire, Development Director, at kevinm@upliftphilly.org or 267-419-9129 with any interest or questions.

About Uplift Center for Grieving Children

Location:

3300 Henry Ave, 110, Philadelphia, PA 19124, US

Mission Statement

The mission of The Center is to help children grieving a death to heal and grow through their grief, while strengthening families, communities and professionals’ understanding of how best to respond to their needs.

Description

The Center provides free peer grief support groups for children, teens and their caregivers. Children and teens groups meet every other week for their support group where they participate in discussion, expressive games and creative arts. All of these activities give the participants an opportunity to express their thoughts, feelings, memories and emotions about the person who has died in their family. While the children and teens meet a concurrent caregiver group meets in a separate room. The groups are held after school hours from September to June in East Fall and West Philadelphia.

Caring adult volunteers are trained by The Center and assist with facilitating both the children and caregiver groups.
