Anyone who speaks, reads, and writes English well can make a difference in the lives of adults learning English as a second language with the Literacy Council of Chelan and Douglas Counties. By teaching English, you improve an increase an individual’s capacity to participate in our community, increase their earning potential, and improve the quality of life for their self and their family. Volunteering your time keeps these classes free and available for motivated adults. Tutors often form unique and meaningful relationships with their students and increase their own appreciation for the English language and the language learning process.
You do not need to speak another language or have teaching experience. The three most important requirements include:
- Speak, read, and write English well
- 18 years of age or older
- Commit to tutoring a 1.5-hour class twice a week for four months
We provide:
- Training
- Curriculum
- Ongoing support as needed
We will create a class for you of 1-6 students of the same English level depending on your availability. Classes run for a minimum of 40 hours (4 months), and currently take place online through video or in person.
